Voice and Music Theatre
Unique content and unique selling points in the comparable university landscape of Central Europe characterize the Institute for Voice and Music Theatre (VOC) at the Anton Bruckner Private University.
Singing lecturers (Katerina Beranova, Ruxandra Donose, Alexander Kaimbacher, Marian Pop and Guido Baehr) and lecturers from the Master's programme (Institute Director Robert Holzer, Thomas Kerbl and Peter Pawlik) work together with all students on music theatre roles, oratorios and conceptual song recitals. The programme takes an open-minded approach, covering everything from the requirements of Baroque oratorio to contemporary music theatre repertoire.
Numerous studio productions promote stage practice
In recent years, a large number of new productions have shown the transition between study and work in all the diversity of the stage world. From Handel's baroque music theater such as “Il Trionfo”, “Alcina”, “Oreste”, Cimarosa's “The Opera Director” to Mozart's “The Magic Flute for Children”, “Le Nozze di Figaro” and ”Cosi fan tutte", and contemporary music theater – Peter Androsch “Freunde” (Friends) Upper Austrian premiere, Udo Zimmermann “Die weiße Rose” (The White Rose), Victor Ullmann “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” (The Emperor of Atlantis) at the Brucknerfest Linz.
In addition, in recent years, highly acclaimed performances of baroque oratorios and passions, such as George Frederic Händel's “The Messiah” or “Alexanderfest” as well as Johann Sebastian Bach's “Magnificat”, “St. John Passion” and “Christmas Oratorio” have been realized.
Contemporary oratorios have been honored with a performance of “Passio crucis” by Balduin Sulzer or the world premiere of a passion by Peter Androsch.
Close cooperation with Upper Austrian cultural institutions and festivals
The institute works closely with numerous cultural institutions in Upper Austria, in particular with the Musiktheater Linz and the Stadttheater Bad Hall.
An annual in-house production at the Musiktheater Linz (2022 G. F. Händel “Oreste”, 2023 Stilian Popova-Kuritko “Traumprinz.Komm” (UA)), as well as a central involvement in the Operetta Festival at the Stadttheater Bad Hall (2022 F. Lehar “The Merry Widow”, 2023 L. Fall “Der fidele Bauer”) offer students a smooth transition between studies and professional life.
