Music Education
The Institute for Music Education (IMP) teaches music and making music as an enrichment and source of strength for people's lives. The students are at the centre of the teaching and research activities at the institute, which creates optimal conditions for their artistic, pedagogical and personal development. The faculty of the Institute for Music Education support students in developing a solid foundation for their work in music schools and other educational institutions, as well as for other current and future fields of activity, such as community projects and outreach formats. Our practical work is based on an attitude of 'artistic citizenship' – as music educators, we take our socio-political and social responsibility seriously.
Each teacher develops their own areas of focus. In this context, pedagogical action is understood as an artistic activity through which music and making music can be experienced in a lively and pleasurable way. This understanding of music education and a broad concept of musical learning is the basis for the employees of the institute when developing and implementing inclusive and innovative concepts for learning and making music together.
The Institute for Music Education consists of the following departments:
- General Music Education (AMP) / Music Teaching Degree
- Elemental Music Education (EMP)
- Instrumental/Voice/Pedagogy (IGP) (including mentoring at the music school)
- Music Mediation (MV)
The IMP's departments generally work independently of each other. However, cross-departmental teams are formed for certain topics and projects. The institute's employees meet twice a year for an institute day (a cross-departmental exchange of ideas and discussion on the development of the institute) and in regularly held institute and department conferences.
