Jazz and Improvised Music
„The Contemporary Art of Jazz“
No Limits – Tradition and innovation taught without contradiction
22 lecturers – 22 different musical backgrounds – stylistic diversity, tolerance and curiosity in practice.
Key topics: improvisational creativity across the entire spectrum, rhythmic languages of the world, Jazz Composition as a development potential for New Music, support in forming one's own expression, imparting what has been learned.
All this can be heard in the numerous JIM ensembles, from duos to the 25-piece Think Bigger Orchestra, which are well embedded in the event scene of the federal state of Upper Austria.
"We are JIM, Faculty and students of the Institute for Jazz and Improvised Music at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. We think about tradition and modernity and the dialogue between the two. We think about what contribution jazz musicians should make to society today and tomorrow. We think about what contribution society should make to jazz. We think about the global jazz village. Or about the freedom between the villages. We improvise, compose, rehearse, experiment and communicate. Our in-house Linz program is called JIM – Communicate."
