CfP: Performativity(ies) of Memory(ies) Interdisciplinary Conference
The Performativity(ies) of Memory(ies) Interdisciplinary Conference intends to address the role of memory in contemporary creation by discussing:
- the process of creation and its relationship to memory work;
- memory as a territory under construction (bodies, texts, sounds, images, narratives) through artistic research;
- the politics of memory in today’s societies and new forms of artistic creation
The objective of the conference is twofold: firstly, to convene a diverse range of interdisciplinary perspectives (fine arts, visual arts, art studies, film studies, memory studies, social sciences, literary studies and philosophy, among others); and secondly, to bring together artists whose creative approaches bring their research practice closer to memory.
Deadline: 30.04.2025
Zeit und Ort: 23.10.–24.10.2025, Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (Portugal)

Nordic Journal for Artistic Research (VIS) Issue 15: “LANGUAGE/LANGUAGED/LANGUAGING”
Language is often used to bridge the gap between artistic practice and reflection, both to contextualise the research and communicate research results. More often than not, this entails an act of translation. As in all translations, the praxis can get lost in the process of turning artistic events into language. We are looking for contributions that look at that which is lost. That look at what can be found, and that look at ways of bridging or exploring this gap between doing art and making language. We are also interested in explorations that look at language as a tool for reflection or as artistic exploration in itself.
We are interested in contributions that put language at the forefront, to explore the edges of what language can do, or to show us how and why artistic research and reflection can do without it.
Deadline: 29.05.2025

CfP: Performing Arts in the Digital Age: Research, Archives, and Innovation
The digital transition has profoundly reshaped the working methods of cultural and artistic institutions – both public and private – along with professionals in the sector, including artists, technicians, and administrators. This transformation has been further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic (Quillet 2022), which imposed health restrictions and social distancing measures, leading to the temporary closure of cultural venues and prompting a shift toward digital platforms. In the arts sector, digital transformation is not limited to the administrative and promotional aspects of institutions and individual artists. It also impacts artistic creation itself – whether through digital tools that contribute to the production of artworks or through works that are natively digital in their form (Baroni 2020). Furthermore, this shift raises critical challenges for the management and preservation of digital archives, as an increasing number of artistic productions now generate born-digital records (Ciciliato 2020). We welcome contributions addressing one or both of the following themes: Digital Humanities and Performing Arts or Digital Archiving and Preservation in Performing Arts.
