University Course Music Education
Music in Context
The University Course Music Education – Music in Context offers a contemporary education for the diverse fields of practice in music education in the cultural and educational sectors. Music education takes place in the context of moderated and staged concerts, concert educational introductions and workshops, or conceptual work at the interface between art and education. In doing so, it meets the needs of the audience for new forms of engagement with music.

Profile
The university course, in collaboration with experts from the field, uses case studies, literature and theories on music mediation, as well as the students' own projects, to explore the diversity of current Austrian and international music mediation. The connections between cultural participation and contemporary music-making are highlighted and explored: music education in concert life, in the media, in the digital space, resource-oriented and participatory methods, audience engagement, community building, curation, and aspects of cultural management are topics in theory and practice. Training phases in stage presence, moderation, and improvisation deepen the students' professional approach.
