Baehr
Guido Baehr, born and raised in the Westerwald (Germany), studied at the State Academy of Music in Detmold with Prof. Helmut Kretschmar. After the music education examinations and the state examination for music school teachers and independent music teachers (StMP), he passed the artistic maturity examination there in 1990 in the artistic subject of singing.
Already during his studies, he had guest contracts with various German theatres such as Detmold, Aachen, Coburg, Dortmund, Essen and Münster. Further guest appearances later took him to Aix en Provence (F), Bern (CH), Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, Enschede (NL), Groningen (NL), Hanover, Cologne, Karlsruhe, Koblenz, Krefeld-Mönchengladbach, Luxembourg (L), Mannheim, Munich, Neuchâtel (CH), Osnabrück, Vevey-Montreux (CH), Würzburg, Wuppertal, and Zurich (CH). From 1991 to 1997 he was a permanent member of the soloist ensemble of the Bavarian State Theatre in Nuremberg. After that, he was a permanent opera soloist at the Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken until 2011.
His repertoire includes more than 100 roles, including the title role in Mozart's LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Papageno in many productions of THE MAGIC FLUTE, the title role (in five productions) of Il BARBIERE di SIVIGLIA, Enrico in Donizetti's LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, Marcello in Puccini's LA BOHÈME and Danilo in the LUSTIGEN WITWE. Gradually he added more and more parts of the Italian cavalier tenor repertoire. He celebrated successes in several great Verdi roles, for example as Renato in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, as Conte di Luna in IL TROVATORE, as Marquis Posa in DON CARLO and as Germont in LA TRAVIATA. The singer demonstrated his versatility particularly impressively in an excursion into the musical field: in the productions of LES MISÉRABLES in Saarbrücken as well as at the Staatstheater Meiningen, he played the leading role of Jean Valjean in about 100 performances.
In addition to his work in music theatre, Guido Baehr also devotes himself to song recitals and oratorio concerts, which have taken him abroad several times, for example to Italy, Japan and China.
He has gained a wealth of experience working with renowned artists such as Christian Thielemann, Hans Vonk, Jacques Mercier, Shao Chia Lü, Marcus Bosch, Joshard Daus, Peter Falk, Conrad Junghänel, Dennis Russel-Davies, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Gwyneth Jones, Peter Seiffert, Julia Varady, Christoph Fischesser and Jonas Kaufmann.
Several CD, television and radio productions document his artistic work.
As a passionate voice teacher, he taught at the Friedrich Alexander University of Nuremberg-Erlangen from 1995 to 1997. His teaching position at the Musikhochschule Mannheim was replaced in 2005 by a professorship for the artistic main subject of singing at the renowned Folkwang-Hochschule Essen. He then taught singing at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken until autumn 2011. Since 2011, Guido Baehr has been teaching singing and didactics at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. In 2016 he habilitated in singing. He gives master classes in Germany, Austria, Italy and China.
