Bachelor Programme Cultural Studies

The bachelor programme in cultural studies is a six-semester artistic-scholarly programme offered by the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), the University of Art and Design Linz (UFG), the Catholic Private University Linz (KU Linz) and the Anton Bruckner Private University (ABPU) since the winter semester 2019/20.

The 6-semester artistic-scholarly on-site program includes 5 core subjects (cultural studies, art history, media studies, history and philosophy) and 4 supplementary subjects (gender studies, global studies, artistic-scholarly research and politics/religion/society). Two study paths are available during the course of study: Students can either focus on one of the core subjects to acquire sufficient knowledge for a subsequent master programme in this subject. Or they can study without a focus and acquire an overview of the entire range of cultural studies subjects and artistic research approaches. The course of study ends with the Bachelor thesis, which is assigned to one of the core or supplementary subjects.

The profile of the bachelor programme in cultural studies consists of a combination of the subject-specific fundamentals of historical-critical cultural studies with artistic practices and cultural work. An important part of this interdisciplinary degree programme is the acquisition of creative skills in project work.
